Buttonwood Inlet RV in Cortez - March 1 at 6:00 p.m.
Country Lakes Village 2 in Palmetto - March 1 at 1:00 p.m.
Chateau Village in Bradenton - March 2 at 1:00 p.m.

Residents, get your taste buds ready for some sweet delights!

Thanks to all those who helped in the February Ice Cream Socials.  The communities are always decorated so nicely and the residents look forward to time of fellowship and a sweet treat!  It's a pleasure for Newby Management to share in and host this anticipated event each year.  As they manage these communities, it is always important to provide "extraordinary customer service", as Martin Newby has stated now for over 20 years!

Helpful Hint: From Heloise
Microwave Cleaning
Put a 4-cup capacity microwave-safe bowl filled with chopped citrus (lemon, lime or orange) and 1 cup of water. Since microwave wattage varies, cook until the water boils. CAUTION: To prevent being scalded, let the water cool for at least 15 minutes before opening the door to wipe out the microwave.

A Bit of Humor:
A young woman was preparing a ham dinner. After she cut off the end of the ham, she placed it in a pan for baking.  Her friend asked her,”Why did you cut off the end of the ham”?  And she replied ,”I really don’t know but my mother always did, so I thought you were supposed to.”
Later when talking to her mother she asked her why she cut off the end of the ham before baking it, and her mother replied, “I really don’t know, but that’s the way my mom always did it.”
A few weeks later while visiting her grandmother, the young woman asked, “Grandma, why is it that you cut off the end of a ham before you bake it?”
Her grandmother replied, “Well dear, otherwise it would never fit into my baking pan.”

Helpful Hint When Using a Mover:
Ask your mover how they will be packing your belongings. Sometimes they will try to sell you fancy packing materials when a plain moving blanket would do the trick.

A Bit of Humor: Why? Why? Why?
Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are almost dead?
Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they already know there is not enough money?
Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars; but have to check when you say the paint is still wet?
Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Relocating Grandparents

I am a grandmother.  I had always heard how wonderful it would be to be a grandmother.  Well, now being one, I can say wonderful isn't all it is!  Watching your child and their partner parenting, seeing your grandchild grow physically and cognitively, and being a part of their lives, is such a blessing!  I think it is  "heaven on earth"!  Since there is geographic distance between our home cities, it is a special time when we can be together.

I am a Relocation Consultant.  I assist people with their relocation questions:  location of retirement communities or  family communities and homes available in these manufactured home communities.  Often I hear how grandparents are looking for a "Winter" home.  These are those grandparents who do not wish to be far from their families year round.  Wow, I can understand this first hand!  It is my pleasure to "connect" with "fellow grandparents", as we all share being a part of, and have membership in, this "Grandparent Club".

I am here for you  - as well as family - in fact, let's just say we are extended family - one helping the other in times of need.  Relocating can be a new adventure, and one worth the journey!  Think about it - with each new adventure may come some additional "heaven on earth"!

~ Mary Blair, Newby Realty   www.newbyrealty.com

"Surely, two of the most satisfying experiences in life must be those of being a grandchild or a grandparent". ~Donald A. Norberg

A Bit of Humor:  Courtesy of Michael B.
She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, "But Gramma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!"

My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, "62."
He was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?

After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin.
At last she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year- old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"

Ice Cream Socials by Newby Management

February beings the Newby Management annual Socials!  Our residents would know them by the name "Strawberry Socials", however, due to the cold and its unfortunate impact on the strawberry crops, this year we will have "Ice Cream Socials"!  Oh yes, the socials must go on!  This tradition has been ongoing now for 23 years, and it is a favorite among all!
Ice Cream Socials scheduled for February:
Country Lakes Village 1 in Palmetto - was Feb. 11 - 1:00
Hawaiian Village in Bradenton - Feb. 16 - 1:00
Royal Palms in Sarasota - Feb. 18 - 1:00
Caribbean Isles in Largo - Feb. 18 - 2:00
Orange City RV Resort in Orange City - Feb. 23 - 12:00
Highland Country Estates in Debary - Feb. 23 - 3:30
Tuskawilla Trails in Winter Springs - Feb. 23 - 6:30
Oak Grove in Englewood - Feb. 25 - 1:00
Terra Ceia Manor in Palmetto - Feb. 26 - 1:00

A Bit of History to the Socials:
Martin Newby, founder of Newby Management, grew up on a farm in Iowa.  Along with the normal crops, they also grew potatoes, cabbage, sweet corn, and 3 1/2 acres of strawberries! At the end of the season, his Mom and Dad said "let's invite the neighbors to bring homemade ice cream and we will supply the strawberries".  The birth of the first "Strawberry Social" was enjoyed by some 200 people on the front lawn of the farm!
As an adult now in business, Martin was researching how to provide "extraordinary customer service" to his customers.  One point he came upon was to provide a quality experience for consumers.  Thinking back to his teen years on the farm, he remembered these strawberry socials with fondness (and still does, to this day!).  He felt this could be recreated for all the residents!  Thus, 23 years ago was the "new birth" of this social - the Newby Management Socials!

Quotes:
"Ice cream is the original soul food." ~Lexie Saige
and a double dip...
"Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart."  ~Erma Bombeck

Fun Facts:
Vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor using 171 million gallons a year, followed by:
    Chocolate:  57 million
    Neapolitan:  47 million
    Butter Pecan:  25 million
    Cookies and Cream:  20 million
Chocolate syrup is the most popular topping on ice cream.
Americans are the top consumers of ice cream.
More ice cream is sold on Sunday than any other day of the week.
One of the major ingredients in ice cream is air. Without it, it would be as hard as a rock.
Immigrants at Ellis Island were served vanilla ice cream as part of their Welcome to America meal.

Why do we get "ice cream headaches"?
It happens on a hot day only!  When the coldness of the ice cream touches the roof of your mouth, it triggers a "cold headache".  This is because of the dilation of blood vessels in your head.  The nerve center located above the roof of your mouth gets cold, and it over reacts and tries to heat your brain.
Is it possible to prevent this?  Yes! If you don't let the ice cream touch the roof of your mouth!

Looking for a Retirement Community?

Manufactured Home Communities are popular because they offer the lifestyle and community many are looking for in their retirement living.  Manufactured homes are “affordable”.  Cost and upkeep is low compared to the homes of ones “child rearing years” and “empty nest years”.  A well maintained community has the “appearance” retirees find desirable. Everyone in the community has the same rules – and each must keep their homes and yards in good condition.  There is a certain feel of “community” and “security” a manufactured home community provides. This is a close knit neighborhood.  Because neighbors share social centers that accommodate activities, it’s easy to stay active, know your neighbors and be concerned for each other.  Often it is found that people watch out for each other’s homes and friends. This is community spirit at it’s best!
Not sure yet?  Stop by any one of our manufactured home communities and see for yourself!  To find the location of Newby Management's Florida communities, go to http://www.newbymanagement.com/
Convinced?  Our sales agents at each community would be glad to assist you as you select your retirement home!  Newby Realty:  http://www.newbyrealty.com/

Helpful Hint for a Valentine Treat:
Start the day with a Valentine Breakfast treat!
Serve "red" foods:  cherries, strawberry jam, apples, red jello.  On your pancakes, use chocolate chips in a heart shape on top of your pancakes!

Quote:
A bell is no bell 'til you ring it,
A song is no song 'til you sing it,
And love in your heart
Wasn’t put there to stay -
Love isn’t love
'Til you give it away.

Helpful Hint for Packing:
Items like newspapers, towels and clothes make great packing cushions. And it’s a great way to pack your towels and clothes while packing other items! However, be aware items packed with newspapers will need to be washed!

Quote:
"A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, 'I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one.' The grandson asked him, 'Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?' The grandfather answered, 'The one I feed.'"     ~ Unknown

Hard work and togetherness. They go hand in hand. You need the hard work because it’s such a tough atmosphere… to win week in and week out. You need togetherness because you don’t always win, and you gotta hang tough together.   Tony Dungy

A Bit of Humor:
My husband, a big-time sports fan, was watching a football game with our grandchildren. He had just turned 75 and was feeling a little wistful. "You know," he said to our grandson, Nick, "it's not easy getting old. I guess I'm in the fourth quarter now."  "Don't worry, Grandpa," Nick said cheerily. "Maybe you'll go into overtime."  -- Evelyn Bredleau

A buddy of mine, Mike, had season tickets to the Detroit Lions football games. One year they had such a miserable record that he couldn't give away two tickets to a game he wasn't able to attend. While parking at a mall, he decided to leave the tickets under his windshield wiper. "And that worked?" I asked.  "Not exactly," said Mike. "I returned to find six more tickets to the same game."  - Joseph L. Fromm
